We had a fault on a machine that, following several in-depth investigations by our own team, we were unable to isolate. Having used Gareth at Griffiths Engineering Solutions previously for a similarly complex issue, we had confidence in his abilities and decided to bring him in again.
Gareth quickly identified that the apparent fault was actually the result of a supply quality issue — something our own investigations had not uncovered. He clearly evidenced and explained the problem, giving us full confidence in the diagnosis, and went on to carry out several software and hardware modifications to resolve it.
Gareth's depth of knowledge and methodical approach made the difference. We will not hesitate to use him again.
Gareth has provided various commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, R&D and automation integration support to the sub-contract friction welding business unit at KUKA Thompson that I led, on machines ranging from around 10 to over 25 years old.
Gareth has broad mechanical, electrical, industrial PLC and software skills, as well as robust friction welding process knowledge, across a variety of projects — keeping production running or supporting challenging welding applications beyond the scope of the machine, where modification or updated coding was required.
Over the years his support included troubleshooting complete breakdowns, assessing machines for maintenance or refurbishment, fitting new PCs and updating software, troubleshooting and solving automatic door failures, and modifying the machine's standard operation to extend its capability for special R&D projects. On another project, Gareth integrated a controller, a PC and a heat-sensing camera into induction heat treatment equipment to provide total cycle monitoring and traceability through ramp-up and hold.
Gareth is an all-rounder with a wealth of experience and expertise in friction welding and automation support. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
